Il festival del cinema di North Bay ha luogo annualmente nel palazzo storico “Capitol centre theatre” che si trova nel centro della nostra cittadina di North Bay.
Il festival si interessa di film internazionali e canadesi ed anche di film locali. Oltre ai films, ci sono molti gruppi di discussione, seminari e ricevimenti.
I film sono selezionati dal comitato del festival, che valuta soprattutto le qualita’ artistiche e la delicatezza dei soggetti anche quando, a volte, essi non sono considerati di grande potenzialita’ commerciale.

Quest’anno sono stati proiettati nove film principali e anche otto cortometraggi, in un periodo di due giorni e mezzo.
Noi abbiamo potuto vedere cinque film e cinque cortometraggi.
Siamo andati alla prima serata di gala, che si è tenuta nella galleria d’arte Kennedy, la quale si trova all’interno del Capitol Centre, e abbiamo visto”Loving Vincent “.
Il giorno dopo abbiamo visto due films: “To The Orcas, with love” e “Mark Felt the Man Who Brought Down the White House” ambientato all”epoca di Richard Nixon.
Il giorno dopo siamo andati al pannello di Discussione di ” Hollywood North (Bay). Ultimamente North Bay e’ stata il set di molti film, e questo boom dell’industria del cinema si e’ fatta sentire in ogni angolo della comunità.
Successivamente abbiamo visto il film svedese “The Square”, vincitore nel 2917 del festival del cinema di Cannes e “Lucky”, un film commovente ma anche divertente con l’attore protagonista ” Harry Dean Stanton, che è morto dopo le riprese del film.
È stata una settimana molto bella ricca e intensa

The North Bay Film Festival takes place annually at the historic Capitol Centre Theatre in downtown North Bay, Ontario. The festival features international, Canadian and local films paired with panel discussions, receptions and workshops. The films are chosen by the festival committee for their artistic qualities or sensitive subject matter even though at times they are not commercially viable or successful.
This year there were nine feature films presented along with eight independent shorts in a period of two and a half days. We were able to take in five feature films and five shorts.
We attended the opening night gala at the Kennedy Art Gallery within the Capitol Centre and that evening watched the film “Loving Vincent”. The next day we attended the showing of ” To The Orcas, With Love” and also the film “Mark Felt the Man Who Brought Down the White House” in the Richard Nixon era.
The next day we attended a panel discussion Hollywood North (Bay). In the past few years many movies have been filmed in North Bay and this film industry boom has been felt in every corner of our community.
Following this we watched the Swedish film “The Square”, winner of the Palme D’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. In the evening we watched “Lucky”, a very moving but funny film starring Harry Dean Stanton who passed away following the making of the movie.
It was a very enjoyable weekend of film viewing.

OUR EUROPIAN RIVER CRUISE to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary:

On Monday May 15, 2017 we flew from North Bay to Toronto and then to Amsterdam to begin our very exciting River Cruise of the Rhine, the Main and the Danube Rivers. We boarded the Avalon Vista ship and set out on a 15 day cruise. We visited five countries, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. We stopped and visited 13 ports of call and each one was special in a different way. The city of Vienna was a highlight of our trip with its Royal Palace, cathedrals and opera house. We attended a marvellous concert in a medieval theatre and enjoyed shopping and cafes in the centre core. Another highlight was the magnificent city of Budapest with its castles, bridges , art galleries and squares.
This was a wonderful holiday and we had the pleasure of travelling and meeting many people from several different countries.

LA NOSTRA CROCIERA IN EUROPA per celebrare il nostro 50mo anniversario di
matrimonio:

Lunedi’ 15 maggio 2017 siamo partiti in aereo da North Bay a Toronto e dopo
da Toronto ad Amstardam per incominciare la nostra crociera sui fiumi Reno,
Main e Danubio. Ci siamo imbarcati sulla nave Avalon Vista per incominciare
la nostra crociera di 15 giorni. Abbiamo attraversato cinque nazioni:
L’Olanda, la Germania, l’Austria, la Slovacchia e l’Ungheria. Durante il
viaggio ci siamo fermati ed abbiamo visitato 13 citta’ ed ognuna era
speciale, magnifica e differente nello stesso tempo. Vienna e’ stata la
nostra citta’ preferita con il Palazzo Reale, cattedrali e gallerie. Abbiamo
partecipato ad un concerto meraviglioso in un teatro mediovale, e abbiamo
gustato camminare nel centro della citta’ con bellissimi caffe’ e
ristoranti. Un’altra bellissima sorpresa per noi e’ stata quella di scoprire
la magnifica citta’ di Budapest con i suoi castelli, ponti, gallerie e
piazze. Per noi questi viaggio e’ stato un’eccellente vacanza che ci ha dato
modo di apprezzare posti mai visti ed incontrare tanta gente provenienti da
diverse nazioni del mondo.

Gita in Canada

This was a very enjoyable holiday organized by “Living Fit” the group of ladies which I belong to. We were walking up to 20 km per day to view all of the most characteristic spots in the Province of Quebec that is totally French speaking but, of course, English is spoken by most of the population as a second language.

Recentemente, ho fatto un viaggio, con il mio gruppo di amiche, in Canada nella provincia del Quebeq.Caminavamo anche 20km al giorno per vedere tutti i luighi caratteristici.Le foto sono del giardino botanico di Montreal, e nella cittadina del Quebec.
Nella provincia del Quebec si parla soprattutto francese,ma c’è ovviamente chi parla inglese

I travelled to Niagara Falls and Niagara-On-The-Lake via tour bus with 40 other women. We belong to an organization called LIVING FIT. It was three days of live theatre, delicious cuisine, wine, shopping and touring. Niagara is renowned for its vineyards, botanical gardens, the Shaw Festival and of course for the Falls, one of the 7 wonders of the world! There are 2 waterfalls, the American and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. The latter being the most majestic. This area is the biggest touristic attraction in Canada year round. For anyone visiting Canada it is a must see! Ho fatto recentemente un viaggio a Niagara Falls e Niagara-On-The-Lake con l’autobus assieme a 40 altre donne. Facciamo parte di una organizzazione che si chiama LIVING FIT (vivere in forma). Abbiamo trascorso tre giorni con teatro dal vivo, pranzi deliziosi, assaggi di vino, shopping e turismo. Niagara e’ rinomata per i suoi vigneti, giardini botanici, Shaw Festival (una continua produzione teatrale) e soprattutto per le sue cascate, una delle sette meraviglie del mondo! Ci sono praticamente due grandi cascate, quella Americana e quella Canadese a forma di ferro di cavallo. Questa ultima e’ la piu’ maestosa. Questa zona e’ la piu’ grande attrazione turistica in Canada tutto l’anno, sicuramente una zona da visitare!

Pasqua in Canada-articoli ospiti-

La Pasqua è di certo una delle feste più celebrate anche in Canada. Pasqua e’ una festa religiosa che commemora la risurrezione di Gesu’ Cristo, dopo la sua morte e crocifissione. Per i Cristiani e’ un giorno di funzioni religiose e riunioni di famiglia. Per i bambini si organizza la caccia all’uovo di Pasqua, e si decorano le uova. La decorazione delle uova soprattutto coinvolge tutta la famiglia principalmente i bambini, che si divertono moltissimo nello svolgere questa attività che in Italia è poco praticata. Il pranzo di Pasqua include, come portata principale, agnello o tacchino ripieno. Lunedi’ di Pasqua e’ giorno di vacanza ma qui’ e’ sconosciuta la tradizione della Pasquetta che invece e’ molto comune in Italia.

Vorrei prendere l’opportunita’, anche a nome della mia famiglia, di augurare a tutti i partecipanti del blog di Caterina ed alle loro famiglie, una felicissima e serena giornata di Pasqua!

Easter is certainly one of the most celebrated festivities in Canada. Easter is a religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion and death. For Christians this is a day of religious services and family gatherings. For children is organized Easter egg hunts, and eggs decorations. The decoration of eggs usually involves the whole family, mainly children, who enjoy a lot in this activity that is not too common in Italy. Easter dinner includes, as a main course, lamb or stuffed turkey. Easters Monday is a day off, but here the tradition of the “Pasquetta” is non existent, a tradition that is instead very common in Italy.

I would like to take the opportunity, also on behalf of my family, to wish all the participants of Catherina’s blog and their families, a very happy and peaceful Easter!

My favourite shop in our small city of North Bay is called PEARLS.  It is located in our downtown core. It is a private company, mainly a jewellery store owned and operated by two women from North Bay. They established it in 1975 and it has become very well known not only in North Bay but throughout Ontario.    Their business has evolved over the years and they have adopted a sleek signature black and silver design that stands out among the other shops on Main Street.
They sell beautiful jewellery, leather handbags and gloves, hats, umbrellas, wool and silk scarves and very unique gifts. The decor is elegant but the store has a friendly atmosphere. The staff is knowledgeable re their products which are of exceptional workmanship and quality.
Browsers are welcome in this establishment but more often than not when I go into browse I end up buying something for myself or for a family member!

Il mio negozio preferito,si trova nella nostra piccola cittadina di North Bay,si chiama Pearls.
Si trova nel centro del paese,è un negozio privato,vende soprattutto gioielleria.Il negozio appartiene a due signore,che vi lavorano.Hanno cominciato nel 1975,ed è diventato molto famoso, non solo a North Bay, ma in tutta la regione dell’Ontario-Il loro lavoro si è evoluto con il passare degli anni,ed hanno creato un loro stampo personale, che gli altri negozi non offrono.

Vendono dei bei gioielli,borse di pelle,guanti cappelli e sciarpe di lane,e vari altri oggetti tipici.Il negozio è molto elegante e raffinato,ma con una atmosfera simpatica-Lo Staff che ci lavora,è molto preparato e i loro prodotti sono di alta qualità.

Molti vanno solo a osservare e ammirare i prodotti,ma io il piu’ delle volte,finisco sempre per comprare qualcosa per me, o per i miei familiari e amici!

quattro fotografie della veduta che abbiamo dal nostro balcone durante le differenti stagioni dell’anno. La prima e’ la veduta invernale, col lago NIPISSING ghiacciato e con temperature che si aggirano dai 20 gradi sotto zero a 35 gradi sotto zero. La seconda e’ la stessa veduta fatta a meta’ maggio dove si vedono le prime foglie che incominciano a spuntare sugli alberi. La terza, sempre la stessa veduta fatta alla fine di luglio. La quarta, sempre della stessa veduta, fatta all’inzio di ottobre con i meravigliosi colori dell’autunno. L’autunno e’ la mia stagione preferita!
